Two Congolese Photos Win Prestigious Awards
Street kids in Kinshasa by Marcus Bleasdale.
In this year’s World Press Photo Awards, two black and white images picturing Congolese realities won.
Marcus Bleasdale’s photo of street kids won second prize on photo of daily life. I wrote a post on street kids in French.
Sven Torfinn’s image of a funeral in northern eastern Congo won first prize in the people in news.
Moreover, Finbarr O’Reilly, who won this year’s first prize, was Congo's Reuters correspondent when I arrived here. He and Marcus Bleasdale published a book four years ago on Congo commemorating Joseph Conrad’s book, Heart of Darkness.
